What's the meaning of life? Nobody knows, but if you ask me – it's happiness. As we tend to forget what means to be truly happy, especially today — when the world is moving so fast — I'd like to share a 10-year story of finding my work-life balance, involvement with WordPress and how it helped me shape into what I am today. WordPress (and its community) thought me that borders are only in our heads and that life is so much more than just staying at 5* hotels and spending money on things we don't actually need. This is a talk about WordPress and its people, about how can we change our own and the life of others by making decisions that will impact the world we live in. This is kind of a talk that you will feel better afterward, seeing a lot of room for your own improvement too.
We often don't think about people with disabilities when designing websites. They are the minority of our visitors and our budget is not that big, right? In this talk I will explore how people with disabilities use the web and will give you some guidelines that will help you create better user experiences for everyone.
In this talk I will cover most frequent mistakes both clients and designers make in their quest to design visually appealing websites. But, where is the barrier between visual and functional? How to focus on users instead of building a good–looking website/or/application that users will hate to use? And how to say no to clients "overthinking" the user interface?
This workshop is designed for anyone who wants to better understand how WordPress themes actually work under the hood and how to build their own with confidence. You'll learn what every well-structured theme needs, how to organize files and directories in a clean and scalable way, and how WordPress templates and the template hierarchy control what gets displayed on your site.
We'll walk through the fundamentals of the WordPress Loop and show you how to work with custom queries to display content exactly the way you want. By the end of the session, you'll be able to create essential templates for pages, posts, and your homepage, and extend your theme's capabilities by integrating tools like Advanced Custom Fields for more flexible content management.
The basic idea of WordPress was to redefine online publishing with allowing anyone to easily publish their articles. More than 10 years later, we used WordPress as an open source publishing platform to build a website for one of the largest cities in Croatia.
I'll tell you a story of how the city of Rijeka decided to go with open source software and how the people reacted to a fact that everything will be open sourced as well. One of the first large-scale "design in the open" projects in Croatia is defining standards for future web development. We're discussing the web design process, sharing knowledge with the public and asking citizens to be a part of the redesign effort.
By delivering designs, HTML and CSS, WordPress theme and documents like Content Strategy and Accessibility Guidelines – we're redefining how the public website should look like. And with the help of WordPress, we're promoting the power of publishing and transparency.
Last but not least – I'll tell you how the city of Rijeka helped us organise our first WordCamp Croatia in 2015 believing in the power of WordPress.

Prva sesija: od nule do objavljene stranice. Druga sesija: blog, routing, arhiva, članci, sidebar, analitika (GA4 + Facebook Pixel), GDPR sukladnost i još iteracija dizajna.
Svaki redak koda napisao je Claude. Nije prepisan, nije kopiran — generiran u razgovoru, od prve do posljednje linije.
Svaka instrukcija, pitanje ili korekcija smjera — kroz dvije sesije izgradnje stranice, bloga i svih funkcionalnosti.
Ukupni API trošak za obje sesije — stranica, blog, analitika, GDPR — kroz ~3M tokena s Claude Sonnet 4.6.
